Negotiation skills are required to successfully navigate formal and informal interactions. They help you build strong relationships and effectively resolve conflicts by arriving at long-lasting and mutually beneficial solutions. In this course from UC Davis Graduate School of Management, you will discover the elements of a successful negotiation and learn how to shift from distributive bargaining to integrative bargaining in a negotiation. You will explore some common mistakes and learn how to avoid them. You will also learn how to incorporate the principles of strategic negotiation in future negotiations.

Jim Olson

Olson has served as the 2013 Robert A Fox Executive-in-Residence at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management, where he teaches Negotiations, Teams and Technology, and Technology Management. He is also an accomplished motivational speaker and author. In 2016, Olson was voted as UC Davis Graduate School of Management Teacher of the Year.

In his business career, Olson founded the WestShore Management Group in April 2007. WestShore Management Group provides interim CEO, corporate consulting and executive development services for both public, and private, venture-financed companies. He’s led several high-technology businesses within Fortune 500 companies, and for nine years served as CEO of SkyStream Networks, the top-rated IPTV video head-end provider.
