This course explores the basic science behind climate change and presents the tools to teach it in a positive, engaging and participatory way. The course also introduces some of the ethical and social issues around climate change.

This course makes use of videos, lesson plans and online games developed by the IDB's "Rise-Up: Education Against Climate Change" initiative. The aim is to assist you in the launch of climate change education and actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change in your school community.

This is a hands-on course, with examples coming directly from Latin America and the Caribbean.

61% of the students who have taken the course affirm that they have improved their ability to formulate, implement and / or evaluate public policies.

52% of the students have said that the course has served them to improve services to citizens as public officials.

This course is "self-paced" so you can enroll at any time, even if the course has been open for a while. You can take it at the time that is most suitable for you inside the enrolment period of the course.

If you opt for the Verified track , you can access the course in an unlimited way and complete the qualified evaluations until the closing date, after making a payment of $25 . Emma Naslund-Hadley
Emma Naslund-Hadley
Since September 2002, Emma Näslund-Hadley is an education specialist in the Education Division at the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC. She leads and collaborates in the design and execution of a wide spectrum of education sector projects. She is the coordinator of the Bank’s efforts to improve mathematics and natural science education. Between 1999 and 2002 she was a political advisor at the European Parliament working on education policies, gender, and labor market issues. Previously she held positions with the United Nations and the Swedish International Development Agency, doing design, execution, and monitoring of education projects in Central America, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. She is the author of papers in peer reviewed journals and institutional reports. Emma has a master’s degree in international economics and finance from the University of Linkoping and a master’s degree in public affairs from Princeton University.
Juan Paredes
Juan Paredes
Juan Paredes is responsible for the technical due diligence of renewable energy projects at the bank, including wind and solar energy. He has advised different governments in the region on topics such as the grid integration of variable renewable energies, smart grids and regional electricity integration. Previously, he worked for wind consultancies from Germany and the UK, gaining extensive experience by assessing more than 1000MW of planned and existing wind farms. Mr. Paredes has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Physics from the University of Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia, and a M.Sc. in Renewable Energies from Oldenburg University in Germany. He also has executive degrees in Infrastructure from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, Energy and Climate Change from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Energy Innovation and Emerging Technologies from Stanford University.
